General Painting and Decorating
With all our painting and decorating projects preparation is the key to producing a quality finish and below is the minimum standard of workmanship you can expect when redecorating internal areas/rooms.
Previously painted ceiling/wall areas will have cracks and minor imperfections filled, rubbed down and will be left clean and dry before any coats are applied. Any water stains will be blocked out with a proprietary stain block or with an oil based undercoat and all ceiling/wall areas will receive at least 2 coats of emulsion.
Previously painted timber/joinery areas will have cracks and minor imperfections filled, rubbed down and will be left clean and dry before any coats are applied. All timber/joinery areas will receive at least 1 undercoat and 1 topcoat or 2 coats of wood-stain, depending on which finish is required. All new timber will be knotted and primed before any preparation and application of paints is undertaken.
Additional coats may be required to cover dark colours and nicotine staining. This additional work will be highlighted and allowed for in any quotations/estimated received.
Lining Paper
In older houses, where the plaster has begun to crumble and deteriorate or after wallpaper has been stripped and has left the paint underneath flaky, the application of lining paper is an ideal way of providing a uniform and sound surface for either painting or wallpapering.
Preparation is still the key, crumbling plaster needs to sealed off with a PVA solution, filled and rubbed down. Flaky paint and bear plaster needs to sized before the lining paper is applied.
In most cases it is more cost effective to apply lining paper than to have the areas re-plastered.
Finished Wallpapers
There is an ever-growing trend for feature walls within houses now and with over 20 years experience we are able to offer an expert papering service covering all finished wallpapers.
We will hang all type’s modern papers and boarders, Textured Vinyl, Fabric, Flock, Wide Vinyl, Textile Papers, Plain Print Vinyl and some not so modern Anaglypta, Woodchip and Lincrusta.
Coving and Artexing
Artexing was very popular in the 80’s and 90’s and was extensively used in new buildings as a finishing coat on ceilings. In the vast majority of cases it was never painted. Although it is not as popular now, it is still a good way of disguising badly cracked and deteriorated ceilings.
We still provide an Artexing service which covers most of the standard patterns used in the past.
Coving is still very popular, used in most new buildings as a way of “softening” a room and, in older houses, a good way of covering a badly cracked ceiling line. We are able to supply and fit most of the coving/cornice available in today’s market.
Decorative Timber and Remedial Works
If you’re looking to give a room make-over and want to break-up the wall area then, a Dado or a Picture Rail, or both, is an ideal way of doing it. There are many types and styles available today and we would be more than happy to supply and fit any of them.
We can also re-new your old skirting boards and architraves if required, re-hang existing doors or supply and fit new doors.
